December’s Centennial Winter Celebration Follow Up From SCAS | NMHA Staff

We thoroughly enjoyed Saturday’s Centennial Winter Celebration held in gratitude for all those who have supported SCAS | NMHA this year. We hope those in attendance had as much fun as we did! As follow up we’d like to give a big shout out to some of the folks who helped make it such a lovely evening—and share some information with you in response to many questions we received that night:

Many of you asked about the tin Christmas tree with (battery operated) candles that was set out on our dessert tables. This beautiful piece of art was loaned to us for the evening by Spanish Market Artist Cleo Romero. Some of you asked if it was for sale. It is! If you would like more information about this and other work by Cleo, you may contact her here through her website: cleoromero.com

Thank you to Michella Estrada Wempen for providing the other lovely tin decorations on display throughout the party: the holiday wreath, candle stands and sconces, and pins worn by our volunteers. Michella has volunteered for SCAS | NMHA for many years and stepped in as our Visitor Services Representative at the beginning of this year to get our new museum check-in system and bookshop off the ground. Thank you Michella! If you would like to learn more about what Michella has been up to since she left this summer, check out her website: homekeepstudio.com.

Special thanks to Walter Burke Catering for the delicious food and drink. As one of our corporate sponsors this year Walter Burke provided catering services for all of our on-site events. We’ve very much enjoyed working with them and deeply appreciate their support!

And special thanks to Metamorphosis Home Staging + Interior Design  for thoroughly transforming our sala into a comfy and stylish lounge, arranged perfectly for our guests to relax and enjoy our presentation on future programming at NMHA in conversation with E. Boyd Curator | Museum Director Jana Gottshalk and Traditional Spanish Market Artist Jean Anaya Moya.

Jana and Jean discussed in particular how expectations have changed for museumgoers since the pandemic and how we worked to identify and reflect those changes—including adopting a new program that will be launched in the spring, “The Workshop,” is a dedicated space in our museum for artists to teach, mentor youth artists and gather for conversation and collaboration. This community-based program is just part of how we are transforming our offerings to serve the public in response to their changing expectations.

In the interest of keeping the program informative but brief, a number of posters were placed around our museum offering a year in review as well as further elaborating on future programs, including upcoming exhibits—reproduced here. Click on the first image below for large pdf version of all three posters and do not forget to watch the video made by artist Patrick McGrath Muniz by clicking on the image with the QR code and scrolling to the bottom of the webpage that it opens to.
