The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is announcing that the 2026–2027 Big Game Draw application opens this month, and now is the time to prepare for the upcoming hunting season.
Hunters are strongly encouraged to verify their contact information and ensure they have a valid email address and phone number listed in their account on the online licensing system. If assistance is needed updating or creating an account, contact the Department at 888-248-6866.
Hunter Education
Hunter education classes are now available and recommended for all hunters, especially those under 18, as they are required before a draw application can be submitted or before going hunting in New Mexico. You can register for a class and find locations and schedules on the Department’s official site. Online classes are also available for anyone age 9 and older.
Upcoming classes are offered in Farmington, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Portales, Clovis, Pecos, Alamo, Taos, and Sandia Park. View updated class listings directly on the Department’s website.
Special Documentation: Mobility-Impaired & Military/Veterans
Hunters planning to apply for hunts requiring mobility-impaired (MI) certification or proof of military or veteran status should submit their documentation as soon as possible to make sure they qualify for special hunt opportunities when the Big Game Draw opens later this month.
Please include your Department-issued Customer Identification Number (CIN) with any documentation you send. Required documentation includes a signed MI certification form from a physician and, for military or veteran qualification, proof such as a DD-214 form demonstrating honorable discharge. Redact all but the last four digits of your Social Security Number before submitting documents if possible.
Documentation should be emailed to special.hunts@dgf.nm.gov. Applicants who fail to submit valid documentation before March 13, 2026 may not be processed in time due to high application volume near the deadline.
