Food with Soul on the Mother Road

In our latest issue, Ungelbah Dávila explores a lesser-traveled stretch of historic Route 66 in western New Mexico, uncovering two memorable stops that serve meals worth celebrating.

In Milan, Thatz Good Eden delivers scratch-made comfort food inspired by flavors from around the world. In Grants, the Junkyard on 66 blends smoke, blues, and industrial character into an experience that lives up to its name.

Cooking Fresh: Oaxacan Chocolate at Home

The newest edition of Cooking Fresh features recipes inspired by Oaxacan chef Oscar Carrizosa of Casa Crespo, where chocolate is crafted and sold above the cooking school.

Ingredients such as Rosita de Cacao—made from the same dried flowers used in tejate—and Chile Ancho add delicate heat and rich aromatics, creating a dessert that feels distinctly Oaxacan.

Oaxacan chocolate, including the Taza brand, can often be found at Mexican specialty markets throughout New Mexico.
