Since opening around 1951 and later being purchased by Susie and Ronald Yip in 1976, the longtime Albuquerque diner has built its reputation on affordable comfort food, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere that keeps customers coming back decade after decade.

A DINER FROZEN IN TIME

Located on Constitution Avenue just west of Carlisle Boulevard, Lucky Boy looks much the same today as it did in the 1950s. Its iconic blue sign still advertises hamburgers, malts and french fries, while the vintage building offers visitors a nostalgic glimpse into Albuquerque’s past.

FIFTY YEARS OF FAMILY OWNERSHIP

Susie and Ronald Yip will celebrate 50 years of owning Lucky Boy in 2026. After purchasing the restaurant from its original owners, the couple has spent decades serving generations of Albuquerque families.

According to Susie, many customers first visited the restaurant as children and now return with children and grandchildren of their own. That sense of familiarity has become one of Lucky Boy’s defining characteristics.

MORE THAN JUST BURGERS

While Lucky Boy is well known for its classic hamburgers, the menu also features a variety of Chinese-American favorites that have become local staples.

Among the most popular items is the signature Egg Fu Young Burger, which combines a traditional hamburger with egg fu young, green chile and melted cheddar cheese. The restaurant also serves lo mein, fried rice, egg drop soup and onion cakes alongside classic diner favorites like hand-spun malts and french fries.

The unusual combination of American diner food and Chinese cuisine has become part of what makes Lucky Boy unique.

The restaurant continues to operate as a cash-only establishment, adding to its old-school charm. Guests often linger over their meals in the cozy dining room, enjoying friendly conversation while being treated like neighbors instead of customers.
