PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — A Los Lunas native is representing New Mexico while taking part in the world’s largest international maritime exercise, Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026, alongside thousands of service members from around the globe.
RIMPAC, hosted by the U.S. Pacific Fleet, brings together military forces from 30 nations for weeks of advanced maritime training in and around the Hawaiian Islands. The multinational exercise is designed to strengthen partnerships, improve interoperability and enhance readiness among allied and partner nations. This year’s exercise includes more than 30 ships, five submarines, over 200 aircraft and approximately 30,000 personnel.
The Los Lunas sailor is serving as part of the U.S. Navy’s mission to promote security, cooperation and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region while participating in a variety of complex training operations.
RIMPAC, first held in 1971, has grown into the premier international maritime exercise, providing participating nations with opportunities to strengthen relationships and improve their ability to operate together during humanitarian missions, disaster response and high-end naval operations.
Participation in exercises such as RIMPAC provides sailors with invaluable real-world experience while reinforcing the Navy’s commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific through cooperation with allies and partners.
