Santa Fe TradFest Celebrates 10 Years of Music This Weekend

Santa Fe TradFest is officially underway, bringing a full weekend of traditional music, workshops, jam sessions and family activities to Bishop’s Ridge Camp & Retreat Center along the Old Santa Fe Trail.

The festival is celebrating 10 years of music in Santa Fe, with events continuing through Sunday, August 30.

After Friday’s opening performances, Saturday brings a packed schedule beginning at 10 a.m. with the ATC Varsity Stringband. Throughout the day, festivalgoers can catch performances from Shelley Morningsong and Fabian Fontenelle, Steve Smith & Tim May, Mariachi Sonidos del Monte, The Onlies, High Fidelity, Lone Piñon, Elliott and Janice Rogers, and more.

The festival is about more than watching musicians on stage. Saturday also features workshops and hosted jam sessions covering bluegrass, old-time music, Irish music, fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, songwriting and more.

Community Barn Dance Returns Saturday

One of TradFest’s popular traditions is back this year with the Community Barn Dance from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The dance is open to all ages, with Marj Mullany calling the dances and an open band led by Eric Carlson providing the music. Musicians are even invited to bring an instrument and join the band.

Admission to the Community Barn Dance is included with a festival weekend pass or Saturday ticket.

Something for the Whole Family

TradFest also includes its Family Zone, open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities include an instrument petting zoo, games, a kids sing-along, storytelling, a ukulele strum-along, a luthier workshop and flatfoot dancing.

The Family Zone returns Sunday from 10 a.m. until noon.

Tickets Still Available

While overnight camping is sold out, festival tickets are still available. Saturday’s all-day ticket is $60, Saturday evening admission is $30, and Sunday admission is $25. Youth under 18 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Online ticket sales are available through Saturday night, and tickets may also be purchased at the gate.
