This year’s Flags of Fellowship movement is taking place alongside the Friends of Zion Ambassador Summit, which runs through October 11. More than 1,000 Christian leaders and representatives from 117 countries have gathered in Jerusalem for a week of events commemorating October 7, 2023, and strengthening the bond between Christians and Jews. JNS reports that the summit held a solidarity gathering at the Western Wall yesterday to mark the anniversary of the attacks. Released hostages were also in attendance.
The Oct. 7 attackers “were not only attacking Jews, but the whole human family and the sanctity of human life,” said Bishop Robert Stearns of the New York-based Eagles Wings Ministry, who addressed the gathering.
“We are living in a time when darkness is getting bigger by the day because dark is losing and the light is breaking through,” he added.
The event, which included representatives from over 100 countries around the world, brought together released hostages as well as plumber Yaniv Hayoun, who helped avert disaster in last month’s failed hijacking attempt of a commercial airliner en route to Tel Aviv in a strong display of international solidarity between Jews and Christians.
“We as Christians know more than anyone else what happens when a lawless regime takes over,” said George Deek, Israel’s envoy to the Christian world. “Israel is the only firewall between us and the persecution of Christians everywhere else in the region.”
Meanwhile, the IDF has continued its fight against Hamas in Gaza this week. The military announced yesterday that two Hamas terrorists were eliminated after they were spotted leaving a hospital in northern Gaza with explosives that had been stored inside the medical facility. One of the terrorists reportedly planted some of the explosives near IDF soldiers stationed along the ceasefire line.
The IDF also announced that another terrorist was shot after crossing the ceasefire line in southern Gaza. Israeli soldiers continue to maintain their presence in accordance with the U.S.-brokered ceasefire while taking action to eliminate immediate threats.
We’re grateful for all those committed to strengthening the bond between Christians and Jews and we praise God for their love and solidarity, even as we pray for the brave men and women of the IDF.
