Sometimes silence is exactly what we need. Other times, it can be the one thing we wish we could escape.
Life gets noisy. Between work, family, television, social media, phone calls, and constant notifications, it can feel like we’re being pulled in a hundred different directions.
Sometimes we just want to turn everything off and enjoy a little peace and quiet.
But there’s another side to silence.
As the years go by, children grow up, friends move away, and the people we once spent so much time with aren’t always around anymore.
Suddenly, the quiet we once wished for can become a little overwhelming.
That’s why finding a balance is so important.
We all need moments to rest, clear our minds, reflect on life, and spend time with God. But we also need relationships, conversations, and people who remind us we’re not alone.
And speaking of taking a moment to think, there are a couple of things worth considering.
First, don’t go overboard buying Halloween candy. Especially if it’s your favorite kind! We all know how that ends. You buy a giant bag for the neighborhood kids, and somehow half of it disappears before anyone rings the doorbell.
Second, with Election Day approaching, take some time to learn about the candidates. Look beyond the political advertisements and campaign promises. Consider their backgrounds, their values, and what they hope to accomplish for your community.
A little quiet reflection can help us make better decisions.
And finally, remember that silence doesn’t have to mean loneliness.
Reach out to someone. Make a phone call. Visit a friend. Let somebody know you’re thinking about them.
Most importantly, remember that even in our quietest moments, God is still with us.
Sometimes silence is golden. Sometimes it’s difficult. But there’s always an opportunity to find peace in the middle of it.
