By NM State Parks

The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD), State Parks Division celebrated the completion of Caballo Lake State Park’s $1.2 million improvement project and installation of a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station on December 11th with a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new, state-of-the-art visitor center.

Officials from EMNRD, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and local dignitaries from Sierra County attended. The new building combines staff offices and a visitor information area. Other major improvements to the park include parking and landscaping improvements and a solar system providing 8.69 kW of energy. The electric vehicle (EV) charging station was installed to serve travelers along the I-25 corridor and all visitors to the park.

“The Caballo Lake State Park visitor center encompasses what I want all of our State Parks to be: modern and energy efficient,” said EMNRD Cabinet Secretary Sarah Cottrell Propst. “I was honored to attend the ribbon cutting and I know visitors and our dedicated park staff will enjoy this facility for years to come.”

Caballo Lake is a serene lake set in a landscape with views towards the majestic, Caballo Mountains. Since 1964 Caballo Lake State Park has offered recreational and economic opportunities to the community of Caballo, Sierra County and the surrounding areas – State Parks looks forward to continuing to benefit the community with these new and improved features.
