Santa Fe Community College and AARP Offer Free Income Tax Help

Tax Preparation Assistance Available Through April 18, 2017

The IRS deadline for income tax returns is April 18, 2017. Since January, the Santa Fe Community College has been providing free income tax preparation assistance in the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center at SFCC located at 6401 Richards Ave.

Assistance is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be available through April 18, except when the college is closed (March 13-19 for spring break and April 14-16 for spring holiday). Exceptions for help in preparation may be made if the client has unusually complicated tax circumstances. The service is also not available to small business owners who have employees or depreciation.

You are asked to bring all of the information and documents you need, including these items:

• You must bring in last year’s printed tax return
• All of your tax documents
• A photo ID and Social Security cards for yourself and your children
• A list of expenses if you paid for child care, college or vocational training
• A list of medical expenses
• A list of charitable donations
• A blank check to receive your refund via direct deposit, should you be eligible for one.
• Tax-Aide volunteers will help clients on a first-come, first-served basis.
