Chief Curator of 14 years, Robin Farwell Gavin will be retiring on July 15, 2017

Dear Staff, Members, Artists, Volunteers and Board of SCAS,

As many of you may have heard, I will be retiring after 14 years as Chief Curator at MoSCA on July 15.

I have not made this decision lightly, as I truly enjoy working with this wonderful collection and I know that there are still many valuable and interesting opportunities to explore within it. But after 40+ years in the work force, it is time for me to put more of my attention to other parts of my life that I also enjoy, including writing, traveling, and spending more time with family. I am happy with the projects that I have accomplished while working here, and I look forward to seeing what will transpire at MoSCA with new staff and a fresh perspective.

Our Director, David Setford, is working hard to ensure continuity and expertise in the curatorial department, and I know that his time and effort will pay off. I will remain on contract in a part-time capacity over the next year to oversee the completion of a few ongoing projects and to assist with the upcoming transition.

Thank you for your support through the years and for the privilege of working with you and with the Society’s collections. I cannot imagine a better way to have spent such a significant portion of my career.

A few words from our Executive Director, David Setford….

We are all so sorry to see Robin go, but she won’t be a stranger around here, as you will have read in her message above. Robin’s achievements are legendary, and the projects that she will continue to work on will help to keep MoSCA and the Spanish Colonial Arts Society in the forefront of the field. I will long remember the time and care she took introducing me to the MoSCA collections, and to Santa Fe. I have personally learned so much from her, for which I will be forever grateful.

Please watch this space for the announcement of an evening at the Museum which will be open to all, at which we will all have the opportunity to say goodbye to Robin properly!
