SANTA FE, NM – Join New Mexicans for Money Out of Politics in a discussion with New Mexico Secretary of State, Maggie Toulouse Oliver, on how New Mexico’s new campaign finance rule will positively affect our elections by making them fairer.

This important new finance legislation requires greater political contribution transparency.

Legislative analysts held that without this new law, the state’s campaign spending system would continue to have serious problems. Like New Mexico, some states are establishing this reform in response to the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens Unitedruling, which removed caps on how much corporations, unions and interest groupscan spend on political campaigns, as long as they don’t coordinate with candidates.

Maggie Toulouse Oliver has spent her career as a public official working for greater transparency and ethics in government, fair and efficient elections, and increased voter access.

First elected in 2016, Secretary Oliver is not only focused on providing increased transparency in financial disclosure and campaign finance reporting, but modernizing the online campaign system, encouraging New Mexicans to register and vote, and advocating for good government and stronger ethics legislation.

A lifelong New Mexico resident, Secretary Oliver previously served as Bernalillo County Clerk from 2008-2016. She attended Albuquerque Public Schools and earned both her BA and MA in Political Science from the University of New Mexico.
