St. Michael’s finishes second in District 2-4A by sweeping Pojoaque Valley, 27-25, 25-19, 25-13

After playing West Las Vegas Wednesday, the Lady Horsemen begin district tournament play at 14-5 overall

St. Michael’s has wrapped up second place in District 2-4A with last night’s sweep on the road against Pojoaque Valley on scores of 27-25, 25-19, 25-13, and winds up the regular volleyball season against West Las Vegas Wednesday.

It brought the Lady Horsemen to 5-2 in district and 14-5 overall and they will be the host team until the district tournament final, with Las Vegas Robertson playing as district champion. Pojoaque, which played an impressive opening set, is 2-3 in district and 6-9 overall.

At Albuquerque Hope Christian, Espanola Valley was swept in non district play, 25-12, 25-18, 26-24 to fall to 6-9 overall. The third set was the best the Sundevils played.

The Saturday schedule has Capital High playing host to Espanola in 2-5, with the Jaguars in second place behind Albuquerque Academy. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start. The Jaguars are 8-9 overall and 4-2 in district, with a road match at Academy and a visit from Los Alamos to wind up the regular season. Capital is assured of the runner-up spot.

In 2-6A, Santa Fe High is home to Clovis and can clinch fourth place with a win. Both are 2-5 in district, and in the previous match, the Demons won 3-2. They are 8-9 overall and the Wildcats 9-7, with the match schedule to begin at 2:30.

At Robertson, it’s West Las Vegas making the short visit. The Dons are 2-9 overall and 0-3 in district, while the first place Cardinals 15-2 overall and 5-0 in district, and 2 p.m. is the slated start.

In 2-3A, Monte Del Sol takes the road to first place Dulce in a 4:30 match. The Dragons are 8-7 overall and 2-1 in district. Dulce is 13-2 and 3-0.
