Catches of the week
The following reports came in late but deserve a mention:
◦ Carlsbad Municipal Lake: Jaxon Sifuentes, 22 months, of Artesia, with help from his gramma, Celina Aguirre, caught his first trout Feb. 14. He was using his new fishing combo with PowerBait.
◦ Chama River: Josiah Coriz, age 7, of Ojo Caliente, caught his first fish, a rainbow trout Feb. 18. He was fishing the river in Abiquiu and using worms.
◦ Oasis Park Lake: Andre Garcia, age 8, of Clovis, caught four rainbow trout Feb. 18. He was using PowerBait.
◦ Tingley Beach: Aaden Bitsie, age 8, of Albuquerque, caught a 14-inch rainbow trout Feb. 18. He was fishing the Youth Pond and using green garlic PowerBait.

Northeast
Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Charette Lakes: Opens for the season on March 1.
Clayton Lake:  Opens for the season on March 1. The boat ramp will be open.
Cimarron River: Stream flow below Eagle Nest on Monday was 1.24 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using slab spoons and jig and grub combinations fished deep for walleye and white bass. We had no other reports.
Costilla Creek: Check this one out next spring.
Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: As of this past Sunday, the lake was about 90 percent free of ice with plenty of shoreline for bank fishing. Fishing was fair using PowerBait for rainbow trout. We had a report of a 24-inch northern pike caught by an angler fishing for trout but have no further details. We had no reports on other species.  Fishing pressure was light. Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Alice: Fishing from the bank was fair using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.  For updated ice conditions, call the state park office at (575) 445-5607. The lake had completely frozen over again this past week and was closed to fishing. Los Pinos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Opens for the season on March 1.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, Fire Balls and Pistol Petes for trout.
Morphy Lake:  Opens for the season on March 1.
Pecos River: Streamflow near Pecos on Monday was 16.4 cfs. Fishing in the Villanueva area was fair to good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday was 37.9 cfs. Fishing was fair using salmon eggs for trout.
Red River City Ponds: Open for the season on March 1.
Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 490 cfs. Fishing in the Taos area was fair to good using San Juan worms, wooly buggers, streamers and night crawlers for trout. We had no other reports.
Rio Hondo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Mora: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco was 11.7 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was slow for all species.
Shuree Ponds:  We had no reports from anglers this week.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. We had no other reports.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Northwest
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Abiquiu Lake: Fishing for walleye was slow. Fishing for trout from the bank was slow to fair for anglers using PowerBait and worms. We had no other reports.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morning was 121 cfs. Fishing was good using worms and small bead-head nymphs for trout.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing was good in the Albuquerque, Albuquerque (South), Belen, Bernalillo and Peralta drains for anglers using bead-head nymphs, worms, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. John Philpott reported catching three rainbow trout during a rain storm last week. He was fishing the Albuquerque South Drain and using a triple nymph dropper rig with yellow bead-head nymphs and size 20 zebra midges. John Rutter reported great trout fishing in the Belen and Peralta Drains with best baits being homemade dough bait, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes. We had no other reports.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing from the bank was fair to good using PowerBait and worms for trout. We had no reports on other species. For updated ice conditions, call the state park office at (505) 876-2391. Â
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice. The area may reopen later this year.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 75.0 cfs and 48.9 cfs respectively. Fishing below Abiquiu was fair using earth worms, small bead-head pheasant tails, zebra midges and red larva.  We had no reports from below El Vado.
Cochiti Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fenton Lake: Fishing was very good using worms and green, salmon peach and garlic PowerBait for trout. For updated conditions, contact the state park office at (575) 829-3630.
Heron Lake: Cold and windy conditions kept most anglers off the lake this past week. A few ventured out, but we received no reports.
Jackson Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and worms for trout. We had no other reports.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 24.8 cfs. The area received several inches of snow this past weekend and we had no reports from anglers.
Laguna del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Manzano Lake: Fishing was very good using garlic PowerBait, cheese, salmon eggs and corn for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Navajo Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Â
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 322 cfs. Fly fishing action through the Quality waters was good using small white and black bunny leech patterns, olive, white and black streamers, red larva, crystal flash midge emergers and zebra midges. Trout fishing through the bait waters was fair using PowerBait, egg patterns, wooly worms, bunny leeches and small spoons. A river enhancement project has begun and the area between the Simon Point Day-Use Area downriver to the Crusher Hole Day-Use Area is closed to boat and foot traffic until March white and black streamers, red larva, crystal flash midge emergers and zebra midges. Trout fishing through the bait waters was fair using PowerBait, egg patterns, wooly worms, bunny leeches and small spoons. A river enhancement project has begun and the area between the Simon Point Day-Use Area downriver to the Crusher Hole Day-Use Area is closed to boat and foot traffic until March 1, 2018. Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Tingley Beach: Trout fishing at the Youth and Central ponds was good using PowerBait, Zeke’s trout bait, salmon eggs, worms, Pistol Petes and custom tied bead-head nymphs. Fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was good using small leech patterns, zebra midges and small red larva for trout. We had no other reports.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest
Alumni Pond: Fishing was very good mid-week but slowed over the weekend. Anglers did well using assorted colors and flavors of PowerBait for trout.
Bear Canyon Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, worms and Fire Balls for trout. We had no other reports.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few walleye caught by anglers using curly tail grubs and crank baits. We had no other reports. Fishing pressure has been very light.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, curly tail grubs, spoons and blade baits for white bass. Fishing for largemouth bass was slow but there were a few caught by anglers using jigs and swim baits. Fishing was fair to good using liver, homemade dough bait and worms for catfish. We had no reports on other species.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Zeke’s trout bait, corn and worms for trout. Fishing was slow to fair using stink bait and worms for catfish. We had no other reports.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 160 cfs. Fishing on the West Fork was fair using wooly buggers for trout. We had no other reports.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for rainbow trout. We had no other reports.   Â
Percha Dam: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Quemado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rancho Grande Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 493 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait for trout. Fishing was good using liver and stink bait for catfish.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: Fishing was good for anglers using garlic PowerBait and cheese for trout. We had no other reports.
Southeast
Alto Lake: Fishing was good using salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports
Bataan Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait and worms for trout. We had no other reports.Â
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 9.60 cfs. Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was rated as good to excellent by anglers using PowerBait for trout.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage.
Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and worms for trout. Fishing for all other species was slow.
Bottomless Lakes: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Brantley Lake: Anglers are required to catch and release all fish here as high levels of pesticides have been found in some fish. Fishing was fair using jigs, worms and spinnerbaits for largemouth bass. We had no other reports.

Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 47.2 cfs. Fishing below Sumner Lake was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using worms and PowerBait. We had no other reports.
Perch Lake: Fishing was very good using Pistol Petes, worms and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood was 11.7 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Rosa Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
