Catches of the week
Bear Canyon: Ignacio Baca of Lordsburg caught a 7-pound channel catfish Feb. 1. He was using stink bait.
Corrales Drain: Towner Dyer of Corrales caught and released a northern pike Jan. 31. He was fly fishing and using a tan Mike’s Gorgan Craw.
Rio Grande: Erick Wilson, 17, of Santa Fe, caught a 28-inch northern pike Feb. 3. He was using a Rapala crank bait.
Tingley Beach: Franklin Wittkofsky, 3, of Albuquerque, caught an almost 14-inch rainbow trout Jan. 31. He was fishing with a wax worm.
Young Pond: Ollan Lopez, 4, of Anthony, caught his very first trout Jan. 30. He was using cheese-flavored PowerBait.

Charette Lakes: Closed for the season.
Clayton Lake: Closed for the season.
Cimarron River: Stream flow below Eagle Nest on Monday was 1.01 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Conchas Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Costilla Creek: Check this one out next spring.
Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: As of Monday, the lake was closed to ice fishing and all other activities. For updated ice conditions, contact the state park office at (575) 377-1594. This year’s ice fishing derby has been cancelled due to the thin ice conditions.
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Put this one on your list for spring fishing.
Lake Alice: Ice fishing for trout was good using ice jigs, corn and PowerBait. For updated ice conditions, call the state park office at (575) 445-5607.
Lake Maloya: On warmer days, there has been some open water around the boat ramp for bank fishing. On those days, fishing was very good using PowerBait for trout. For updates on ice conditions, call the state park office at (575) 445-5607.
Los Pinos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Closed for the season.
Monastery Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Morphy Lake: Closed for the season.
Pecos River: Streamflow near Pecos on Monday was 22.3 cfs. The upper river was covered with a good deal of ice. Fishing downstream from the town of Pecos was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using salmon eggs.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday was 44.0 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Red River City Ponds: Closed for the season.
Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 496 cfs. Fishing in the Taos area was fair to good using San Juan worms, wooly buggers, bead-head pheasant tail nymphs, small streamers, Gulp eggs and night crawlers for trout. Fishing for northern pike was fair for anglers using streamers and crank baits. We had no other reports.
Rio Hondo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Mora: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco was 5.12 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: There was plenty of open water for shore fishing, but the winds kept anglers away over the weekend. We had no reports. For updated ice conditions, call the state park office at (505) 425-7278.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing for walleye and white bass picked up a bit this past week. Most were found deep at 50 to 65 feet and right on the bottom. Best baits were jigs tipped with Berkley Gulp, blade baits and slab spoons. Anglers fishing for white bass also caught a few catfish. We had no other reports. The surface water temp was in the low 40s. degrees.
Northwest
Abiquiu Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morning was 185 cfs. Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, egg patterns and small midge patterns for trout.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing in the Albuquerque, Belen and Peralta drains was fair to good using wooly buggers, worms, corn and salmon eggs for a mixed bag of largemouth bass, trout and carp. Diego Silva of Belen fished the Peralta Drain and reported catching a largemouth bass. He was using a black wooly bugger. He also reported several carp being caught.
Bluewater Lake: As of this past Sunday morning, there was some open water for bank fishing, but we had no reports from anglers. The portion of the lake covered with ice was unsafe for fishing. For updated ice conditions, call the state park office at (505) 876-2391.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 115 cfs and 37 cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair to good using small bead-head nymphs, San Juan worms, Fire Balls and night crawlers for brown and rainbow trout. The river just below Abiquiu continued to be quite crowded but fishing was good. Neil Vangese reported anglers catching fish using green and garlic PowerBait, salmon eggs and small green and red zebra midges. Several fish were caught and released. Brandon Serrano of Hernandez was fishing farther downstream and caught two nice rainbows in the 17-inch class. He was using pheasant tail nymphs.
Cochiti Lake: As of this past Monday, there was still a considerable amount of ice on the lake and anglers were unable to launch boats. We had no reports from anglers.
El Vado Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
Fenton Lake: The lake remained covered with ice and was closed to fishing. For updated conditions, contact the state park office at (575) 829-3630.
Heron Lake: Fishing from the bank was slow to fair using PowerBait for rainbow trout. Fishing pressure was light.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 23.3 cfs. Trout fishing on the Jemez was slow again this past week with just a few trout caught by anglers using worms and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other streams.
Laguna del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: Fishing was fair using Fire Balls, worms and PowerBait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using swim baits and deep running crank baits for northern pike. We had no other reports.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 356 cfs and visibility was about 1.5 feet. Fly fishing action through the Quality waters was good using Mini Macs, Krystal Flash emergers, olive and white streamers, small leech patterns, red larva egg patterns and midge clusters. Dry fly action was a bit sporadic. Trout fishing through the bait waters was fair to good using PowerBait, worms, Fire Balls and small spoons. A river enhancement project has begun and the area between the Simon Point Day-Use Area downriver to the Crusher Hole Day-Use Area is closed to boat and foot traffic until March 1, 2018. Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Tingley Beach: Trout fishing at the Youth and Central ponds was very good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, wax worms, earth worms, Pistol Petes, small Kastmasters and Super Dupers. Anglers using bait had the best luck fishing just off the bottom. Fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was good using light colored chamois leeches, San Juan worms, bunny leeches and small midge patterns for trout. We had no other reports.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest
Alumni Pond: Fishing was very good using assorted colors and scents of PowerBait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing was very good using small plastic grubs, PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout. Fishing was good using Super Dupers and small silver and silver and red Blue Fox spinners at night for crappie. A few catfish were caught by anglers using stink bait and homemade dough bait. We had no other reports.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. Anglers reported low water conditions.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using blade baits, spoons, deep running crank baits and jig and grub combinations for white bass and walleye. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the mid 40s.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Zeke’s trout bait, corn and worms for trout. We had no other reports.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 56.1cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was fair using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Percha Dam: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Quemado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rancho Grande Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 0.35 cfs. Fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: Fishing was very good for anglers using assorted colors of PowerBait for trout.
Southeast
Alto Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and Super Dupers for trout. We had no other reports
Bataan Lake: Fishing was fair to good using stink bait for catfish. Trout fishing was fair using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms and Pistol Petes. We had no other reports.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 12.5 cfs. Fishing was fair using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Trout fishing was good for anglers using PowerBait and Fire Balls. We had no reports on other species.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage.
Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was fair to good using small Kastmasters, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Bottomless Lakes: Trout fishing was good for anglers using PowerBait and salmon eggs.
Brantley Lake: Anglers are required to catch and release all fish here as high levels of pesticides have been found in some fish. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: Fishing was very good using stink bait and liver for catfish. Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no other reports.
Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was very good using salmon eggs, corn and PowerBait for trout.
El Rito Creek: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, Zeke’s trout bait, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no other reports.
Eunice Lake: Fishing was good using assorted colors of PowerBait for trout.
Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, homemade dough bait and salmon eggs for trout.
Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing was very good using copper John Barrs, Pistol Petes, salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout. Fernando Aguilar of Alamogordo fished here last Sunday, and he and his girlfriend caught 8 trout in about 4 hours. They were using salmon eggs and floating yellow PowerBait.
Jal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Van: Fishing was fair using PowerBait, Pistol Petes under a bubble and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was very good using worms and PowerBait for trout.
Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 22.8 cfs. Fishing below Sumner Lake was fair to good using worms and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Perch Lake: Fishing was very good using Pistol Petes, salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood was 4.22 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing pressure was extremely light, and we had no reports from anglers.
Sumner Lake: Fishing for walleye was fair for anglers using slab spoons, blade baits and worms. Anglers fishing for walleye also caught a few white bass and catfish. The catfish were caught by anglers using worms.
