Not only is Capital High softball enjoying this season, and has won 10 of 14 outings, but the Jaguars are also in the mix for first place in District 2-5A.
And after splitting Saturday’s doubleheader at Albuquerque Academy, winning game one, 6-4 and losing game two, 14-11, they stand at 3-2 in district with first place Los Alamos paying a visit Wednesday afternoon.
Presently, the district standings has Los Alamos at 4-1, Capital is a game behind, Academy is at 3-3, Espanola Valley 2-2, and Albuquerque Del Norte winless in three starts.
For the Jaguars, the split with the Chargers was good and bad, the good being key hits winning the opener behind freshman pitcher Marley Cardenas, and losing a slugfest in the closer despite pushing across 11 runs.
The bad news came when leading hitter JoJo Bowannie injured her wrist.
There wasn’t any diagnoses of the injury, so hopefully it’s not too severe.
Cardenas went the distance in the first game, striking out seven and walking two. Capital tied the score at 3-3 in the sixth inning and then took the lead
