From New York to New Mexico

By N.M. Wildlife Federation
There are many people in our state who don’t have the opportunity to get in the outdoors regularly, or aren’t aware of what we have. My personal mission is to change that.
Growing up on the East Coast in Brooklyn, New York my family didn’t grow up hiking or camping. But I’ve always had a passion for the environment and outdoors. I wanted to use my marketing skills for a nonprofit that would protect land and water.
I started looking for jobs and lucky for me, I found what sounded like a perfect job at the New Mexico Wildlife Federation. Taking this job and moving to New Mexico was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Now instead of sitting in traffic to get outside for a weekend away, my husband and I load up the dog (pack plenty of water) and drive for 25 minutes to the Sandias. The outdoors here are so close and so accessible.
Now that I have these opportunities, I want to make sure everyone in our state has them. I think the younger me that collected rocks and couldn’t get enough of the outdoors would be happy to know my job now involves leading hikes, educating youth about outdoor activities, and protecting our public lands.
But you don’t have to work with us to make a difference. Even if you think that you don’t have the resources to help, you do. All we ask is $5 per month – $60 a year (or more if you can). We need your help to accomplish our mission of protecting public lands, public waterways, and wildlife for the future. Please consider donating today.
