Udall, Heinrich, Pearce Welcome USPS Efforts To Maintain Postal Service In Pie Town, N.M.

By Martin Heinrich Press Office
U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Representative Steve Pearce wrote to Postmaster General Megan Brennan to thank the United States Postal Service (USPS) for taking the necessary steps to ensure continued mail service in Pie Town, N.M. after announcing last month that operations at the Pie Town Post Office will be temporarily suspended due to the condition of the building.
“Thank you for responding to the concerns of the community and our offices by installing the centralized mailboxes quickly and eliminating the need for residents to travel to Datil. We greatly appreciate that you have also temporarily moved the post office into a new building so that Pie Town has full mail service while you work to find a new permanent location. We look forward to hearing updates on your progress to find a permanent location soon,” wrote the lawmakers.
The lawmakers reiterated the importance of keeping a permanent post office open in Pie Town and encouraged USPS to work with Pie Town residents to preserve the historical significance of the former post office.
USPS will be holding a public meeting to discuss locations for a new permanent post office today, May 9 at 5 p.m. at the Pie Town Community Center at 6 Beanery Row, Pie Town NM 87827.
Last month, the lawmakers sent a letter to Postmaster General Brennan to express concerns with the temporary suspension of operations at the post office in Pie Town, and urged USPS to keep a permanent post office open.
