T-Mobile announced last Thursday that it discovered and shut down a brief security breach. During the breach, hackers were able to grab the data of almost three million people. Compromised information includes the following: customer name, billing zip code, phone number, email address, account number, and account type. According to T-Mobile, financial data, social security numbers, and passwords were not affected by the breach.
T-Mobile is not aware of the identities of the hackers or whether or not they are government or criminal-affiliated, but the attackers were part of “an international group.” Text messages will be sent out to all customers affected by the breach.
What To Do Now
If you’re among those whose personal data was compromised, it’s a good idea to change your password. Once a hacker has your account number, phone number, and email address, it is easier for them to obtain your login information.
Additionally, you can also sign-up for an identity-monitoring service to keep tabs on any unusual activity with your accounts. Guadalupe Credit Union offers Worry-Free Checking and Worry-Free Checking Plus, which both include ID Protect®, a service that provides total identity monitoring.
