Conchas Lake: Kerry Guyette of Amarillo, Texas caught and released a 5.2-pound smallmouth bass October 27. He was using a white chatter bait.

Lake Van: Jordan Richburg, age 9, of Roswell caught a 28.5-inch catfish and Kade Richburg, age 7, of Roswell caught an albino catfish Oct. 27. They were using night crawlers. Isaiah Conde, age 13, caught a 26-inch, 6-pound catfish Oct. 27. He was using chicken liver.

Roswell Kids Pond: Cousins Chevy Wyatt, age 10 and Mason Wyatt, age 8, caught three channel catfish Oct. 27. They were using stink bait and chicken liver.

Ute Lake: Steve White of Dalhart, Texas caught and released a 4.22-pound smallmouth bass and a 5.10-pound largemouth bass Oct. 27.

The following catches came it late but are definitely worth mentioning:

Monastery Lake: Julia Romero, age 10, of Santa Fe caught her first fish, a 13-inch rainbow trout, Oct. 21. She was using a fly with a bubble.

Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Charette Lakes: Closes for the season October 31.

Cimarron River: Stream flow near the town of Cimarron on Monday morning was 11.3 cfs. Fishing was good using small spinners, copper John Barrs, Fire Balls and worms for trout. Bryan Bacon and Seth Moore of Amarillo fished here last week and caught four rainbow trout over 17 inches. They were using spinners and Fire Balls. We had no reports from the Gravel Pit Lakes. 

Clayton Lake:  Closes for the season October 31.

Conchas Lake: Fishing was good using jigs, curly tail grubs, Zoom worms, swim baits, craws and tubes for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was good using homemade dough bait, cut bait and chicken liver for catfish. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the high 50s to low 60s.

Costilla Creek: Stream flow on Monday morning below Costilla Dam was .44 cfs. Mark your calendar to check this one out next spring.

Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was slow.

Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing was good using worms, PowerBait and small jigs for perch. Fishing was good using worms, PowerBait, Fire Balls, Pistol Petes and spinners for rainbow trout up to 24 inches. Fishing was good using large streamers, crank baits and in line spinners for northern pike. Kokanee snagging was slow with just two reported snagged in the dam area. One report came in that you could see salmon spawning near an island formed by the low water conditions. We had no reports on other species.

Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls and worms for trout.

Fawn Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Gallinas River: Fishing was fair to good using worms for trout.

Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Maloya: Fishing was good using hare’s ears, wooly worms, Pistol Petes, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Los Pinos River: Trout fishing was fair to good using wooly buggers, worms and salmon eggs.

Maxwell Lake 13: Closes for the season October 31.

Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using prince nymphs, wooly buggers, Fire Balls, PowerBait and earth worms for trout.

Morphy Lake: Work has begun on the dam and the lake will remain closed through the end of the year.

Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos on Monday morning was 48.4 cfs. Fishing was good using copper John Barrs, prince nymphs, hare’s ears, wooly buggers, small spinners, worms and Fire Balls for brown and rainbow trout.

Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday morning was 45.2 cfs. Trout fishing below Questa was good using prince nymphs, Fire Balls, PowerBait and worms. Fishing at the hatchery pond was very good using PowerBait and worms.

Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 175 cfs. Trout fishing was very good using prince nymphs, bead head hare’s ears, pheasant tails, small gold Kastmasters, Panther Martins, PowerBait and night crawlers. A few northern pike were caught by anglers using large streamers. We had no reports on other species.

Rio Hondo: Stream flow on Monday morning near Valdez was 10.4 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Rio Mora: Stream flow near Terrero on Monday morning was 21.7 cfs. Fishing was good using worms for trout.

Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday morning was 14.8 cfs. Fishing was good using salmon eggs and worms for trout.

Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was slow for all species.

Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait for trout. We had no reports on other species.

Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Ute Lake: Fishing was good using senkos, creature baits and crank baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was good using blade baits at 42 to 53 feet for walleye. White bass were scattered, but a few were caught by anglers using crank baits, spoons and blade baits. Fishing was fair using cut bait and liver for catfish. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the low 60s.

Abiquiu Lake: The lake level remains low and anglers should use extreme caution when launching boats. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for launching. Much safer launching would be with canoes or kayaks. Fishing from the bank and from boats was fair using crank baits, spoons and worms for walleye and trout. We had no reports on other species.

Animas River: Water flow below Aztec on Monday morningwas 293 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs.

Albuquerque Area Drains: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Bluewater Lake: Fishing was fair using large streamers, swim baits and crank baits for tiger muskie. Fishing was fair to good using night crawlers, hot dogs and liver for catfish. We had no reports on other species.

Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Canjilon Lakes: Trout fishing was fair using PowerBait, worms, Fire Balls, prince nymphs, Fisher Chick spinners and Kastmasters.

Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 61.5 cfs and 274 cfs respectively. Trout fishing above and below El Vado was fair using copper John Barrs, micro mays, worms and PowerBait for brown and rainbow trout. Fishing below Abiquiu was good using worms, salmon eggs, Berkley Power Eggs and wooly buggers for trout.

Cochiti Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

El Vado Lake: Fishing was slow. Fishing pressure was light.

Fenton Lake: Fishing was very good using salmon eggs, PowerBait, worms, gold spinners and gold Kastmasters for trout.

Heron Lake: Fishing continued to be quite slow for all species with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait, roe sacs and salmon eggs. Fishing pressure was light.

Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez near the town of Jemez on Monday morning was 19.1 cfs. Fishing on the Jemez was fair to good using worms for trout. Fishing on the Cebolla was good using worms, Fire Balls and copper John Barrs for trout. We had no reports on other streams.

Laguna del Campo: Closes for the season October 31.

Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week. 

Lake Farmington: Fishing was slow for all species.

Manzano Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.

Navajo Lake: Fishing was good using swim baits, senkos, tubes, jigs and worms for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using spinnerbaits, swim baits, crank baits and jigs for northern pike. Tim Buschmann of Albuquerque reported good salmon snagging this past week getting his limit in about an hour and a half on Thursday and many others with limits. We had no reports on other species. Designated no-wake areas are closed from October 1 through November 8.

San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

San Juan River: Stream flow below Navajo Lake on Monday morning was 403 cfs. Fishing was good using red annelids, fluff baetis, zebra midges, small egg patterns, colored midges, midge clusters and Root Beers for brown and rainbow trout. There have been good midge and baetis hatches coming off almost every day and especially so on cloudy days. Through the bait waters, trout fishing was good using worms, PowerBait, copper John Barrs, egg patterns and small gold spoons.

Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls and worms for trout.

Tingley Beach: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.

Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Alto Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait for trout. We had no reports on other species.

Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday morningwas 14.8 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout. We had no reports on other species.

Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage. It appears now that the lake will be out of commission until the spring of 2020.

Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was slow. Fishing pressure was light.

Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Brantley Lake: Fishing was fair using senkos, spinnerbaits, plastic worms, creature baits and ned rigs for largemouth bass and white bass. Fishing was fair using liver and night crawlers for catfish. We had no reports on other species.

Carlsbad Municipal Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using worms for catfish. We had no reports on other species.

Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.

Corona Pond: Fishing was slow for all species. Ron and Pam Clawson reported slow fishing conditions with just a few catfish caught using chicken liver.

El Rito Creek: Fishing was good using copper John Barrs, PowerBait and worms for trout.

Eunice Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.

Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.

Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.

Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms, Pistol Petes under a bubble and small spoons for trout. Fishing was fair to good using worms for catfish. We had no reports on other species.

Jal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Van: Fishing was very good using night crawlers, chicken liver and blood bait for catfish. We had no reports on other species.

Perch Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.

Ruidoso River: Stream flow on Monday morning at Hollywood was 50.3 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was fair to good using creature baits, jigs, swim baits, senkos and spinnerbaits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. We had no reports on other species.

Sumner Lake: Fishing was fair using senkos, tubes, worms and spinnerbaits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. A few walleye were caught by anglers using deep diving crank baits and spoons. We had no reports on other species.
