Home sweet home.

It is goodbye to Nina Otero Middle School, as Academy of Technology snd The Classics will now play its home basketball games on campus. This is the biggest step the middle school, high school charter school in south Santa Fe has taken as it brings a new look forward.

The gymnasium is about ready to welcome guests and the girls and boys basketball players. New Phoenix head girls coach Ron Drake, now on vacation in New York City, will soon return for Tuesday practices, as will as the boy’s team under head coach Anthony Moya on Wednesdays, which might be this week.

:”We expect to host our own, first tournament on Nov. 1,” says the school’s athletic director Tim Host, who also is head coach of the successful track and field and cross country programs that are state championship contenders.

The school has only the undefeated girl’s soccer team, the boys and girls basketball teams, and the track and field, cross country teams.

“We have talked about putting together a boys soccer,” Host says, “so we might then have our own soccer field on campus if we can find the space.”

Presently, the girl’s soccer team coached by Eddy Segura, plays its home matches at El Caino Real, which is right off route 595.

The school does have a cross country course on campus and often plays host to invitational meets.

As for the new additions, Host says there will be a grand opening on October 3 at 5:30 p.m.

Enterprise Builders has completing the basketball gymnasium and the science/music studies building,

An interesting, welcoming note by Santa Fe resident Bruce Swanton serves the purpose of this new look.

Says Swanton: I’m a volunteer at the Academy of Technology and The Classics, a charter middle school/high school in south Santa Fe. Enterprise Builders has finished our new gym and science/music studies building on budget and ahead of schedule, and the work is beautiful.

“Thank you Enterprise Builders. It’s wonderful, senior project superintendent Jason Vigil and all of you great workers. Well done!”

Nice to hear this from a person who has been a volunteer worker and has been on the job posting all that has been done on this new project.

Same address, 74 A Van Nu Po Road, 87508, Same colors, red, maroon and gold. But a new look.
