Will Pro-Life Candidates Survive the 2020 Election?

By Family Policy Alliance of New Mexico
Will pro-life candidates survive the 2020 election?

This is one of the most pressing questions as we wrap up 2019 and prepare for what will be a critical year for the pro-life movement in New Mexico. Sure, we overcame the odds this year and defeated the radical abortion bill, HB 51. Sure, we were mobilized and active, perhaps like never before. And sure, we are ramping up our efforts to do this all over again during the upcoming 2020 Legislative Session.

But will all of this passion and hard work matter if the radical abortion industry has its way during the 2020 election?

The answer is no.

This is what we know. Planned Parenthood and its affiliated PACs will spend tens of millions of dollars in 2020 to defeat pro-life candidates, including Democrats. Their aim is clear—to purchase radical, pro-abortion majorities in the U.S. Congress and in state legislatures across the country. And friends, the New Mexico Legislature is one of their primary targets—especially those pro-life Democrats who helped us defeat HB 51. Recently, the Albuquerque Journal reported that at least three Senate Democrats who opposed HB 51 have already garnered Democratic opponents in their primary elections, and this trend is sure to continue.

With every threat, however, there is opportunity. As pro-life New Mexicans, we have flexed our lobbying muscle with our voices. Now, we must flex our political muscle with our votes.

Individually, we may be Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and Independents; but together, we are pro-life.

Come June and November 2020, my encouragement to you is simple. Vote for life and be a voice for those who cannot vote or speak for themselves.
