Kick off the New Year with a First Day Hike at a New Mexico State Park Near You

The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department State Parks Division will host First Day Hikes on January 1, 2020 at nine state parks across New Mexico. In addition to the hikes, visitors can also participate in Polar Bear Plunges at Storrie Lake State Park in Las Vegas and Eagle Nest Lake State Park in Eagle Nest.

 

Below is a list of all the participating Parks hosting First Day Hikes:

 

Hyde Memorial State Park, Santa Fe- Waterfall Trail – 10:00 a.m.

Cerrillos Hills State Park, Cerrillos, NM – 1:00 p.m.

Navajo Lake State Park- Navajo Dam, NM- River Trail 10:00 a.m.

Pancho Villa State Park- Columbus, NM – Cootes Hill Loop – 9:00 a.m.

Storrie Lake State Park – Las Vegas, NM – Polar Bear Plunge Noon

Eagle Nest Lake State Park – Eagle Nest, NM – Polar Bear Stomp 9:30 and Polar Bear Plunge 11:00 a.m.

Sugarite Canyon State Park – Raton, NM  11:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Leasburg Dam State Park- Radium Springs, NM – Mogollon Trail 10:00 a.m. – noon

Elephant Butte Dam, Elephant Butte, NM 10:00 a.m.– 2:00 p.m. (The Dam is only open to pedestrian traffic one day a year for First Day Hikes)
