The lady horsemen tournament starts Thursday’s morning opener at 8:30, it will be Los Alamos (3-5) leading off against defending state 2A champion Pecos, whose lone loss in eight starts came against Santa Fe Indian School.

Next, Santa Fe High (4-4) makes the short trip down Siringo Road to play Espanola Valley, which is 5-4, and which is slated for a 10 a.m. start. Albuquerque Sandia Prep comes in at 1-4 and takes on Taos (3-2) at approximately 11:30.
The closing game has host St. Michael’s, all even at 5-5, meeting up with District 2-3A rival Raton, which has won two of six starts.
On Friday is when the semis will be contested. The Los Alamos-Pecos winner will go against the Santa Fe High-Espanola winner at 4 p.m., and following around 7 p.m., it will be the Sandia Prep-Taos winner versus the Raton-St. Michael’s winner.
The Saturday finals list the championship contest at 2:30 p.m., third place at 1 p,m.,
fifth place at 11:30 in the a.m., and playing for seventh place beginning the day at 10 a.m.
The Lady Horsemen have won this tournament only once, but played well in finishing third in the recent Ben Lujan tournament up at Pojoaque Valley. Pecos, Taos and Espanola are the only teams with winning records, but it still looks like a tight tourney up for grabs.
Then there’s the boy’s annual Stu Clark tournament played at New Mexico Highland’s John A. Wilson Complex in Las Vegas.
That also bounces in Thursday, and the daily newspaper has it right.
Pecos’ 3-time defending state 3A and 2A champions might be the team to beat. They are 6-1 with the lone setback to 5A Santa Fe High by eight points in the annual Al Armendariz tournament played at Capital High. The Panthers open against Albuquerque St. Pius X (2-3) at 10 a.m.
Following with be Bernalillo (5-4) meeting up with Taos (5-3) at 2 p.m.Then Mora (3-2) takes the floor versus co-host West Las Vegas (2-4) at 6 p.m., and in the finale, Santa Rosa (4-2) faces co-host Robertson (6-2) at 7:30 p.m.
The semifinals are Friday, with the Pecos-St. Pius winner going against the Mora-West Las Vegas winner at 6 p.m., and the Bernalillo-Taos winner playing the Santa Rosa-Robertson winner at 7:30 p.m.
The finals on Saturday has the title game set for 7:30 p.m., third pace for 6 p.m., fifth place for 2:30 p.m., and seventh place leading off at 1 p.m.
Elsewhere, the Santa Fe High boys (8-1) are in the Jalene Berger Holiday Hoops Classic played at Rio Rancho High and open with Socorro, Tex., at 7 p.m. This follows the Albuquerque Highland-Espanola Valley game scheduled for 4 p.m.
