Local Regular Election for Mayor and Four City Councilors (one from each district) to take place on November 2, 2021

Candidate packets will be available on Monday, May 3, 2021 for anyone interested in running for an elected position. Packets include nominating petitions and all required forms relating to Public Campaign Financing.
Qualification for Candidacy
A candidate for the office of Mayor for a four-year term shall:
  1. be a registered voter [qualified elector] who resides within the city limits of the City of Santa Fe;
  2. file with the City Clerk a Nominating Petition containing the valid names, addresses and signatures of at least one-half of one percent of the registered voters [qualified electors] of the city.
Nominating Petition names, addresses and signatures may be collected only between May 3, 2021 and July 2, 2021.
All pages of the Nominating Petition must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 7, 2021 at the office of the City Clerk, Room 215, City Hall, 200 Lincoln Avenue, Santa Fe. See NMSA 1978, 3-1-5(E).
A candidate for the office of City Councilor for a four-year term, for any of the four (4) council districts, shall:
  1. be a registered voter (qualified elector) who resides within the district from which they are running; and
  2. file with the City Clerk a Nominating Petition containing the valid names, addresses and signatures of at least one-half of one percent of the registered voters [qualified electors] of the district that the candidate seeks to represent.
Nominating Petition names, addresses and signatures may be collected only between May 3, 2021 and July 2, 2021.
All pages of the Nominating Petition must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 7, 2021 at the office of the City Clerk, Room 215, City Hall, 200 Lincoln Avenue, Santa Fe. See NMSA 1978, 3-1-5(E).
Public Campaign Financing
Any candidate for Mayor or City Councilor may qualify as a Participating Candidate eligible to receive payments from the Public Campaign Finance Fund.
Participating Candidates may start collecting the requisite number of five dollar ($5.00) qualifying contributions beginning on May 3, 2021 as follows:
  • Mayor Candidates: Six hundred (600) five dollar ($5.00) qualifying contributions from separate city of Santa Fe qualified electors
  • City Councilor Candidates: One hundred fifty (150) five dollar ($5.00) qualifying contributions from separate qualified electors registered to vote in the council district in which the candidate is running.
