St. Michael’s volleyball team has a mixture of at least one player in each class

Two tough losses don’t offset the recent surge by the St. Michael’s volleyball team when it plays visiting Los Alamos tonight.
The season-opener was a tight 3-0 setback at Albuquerque Sandia Prep in which all three sets were close, and then there was the 3-2 defeat at Espanola Valley in another match that went down to the final points in the deciding set.
Aside from this, the Lady Horsemen have done just fine winning their last three starts. Overall, they have swept East Mountain both at home and on the road, twice swept Albuquerque Bosque School home and away, took all three sets over Cuba and now faces the Hilltoppers (3-4) in a match scheduled for a 6 o’clock start.
Overall, Valerie Sandoval’s team is 5-2. in District 2-3A, the Lady Horsemen are 5-1, with the lone loss to Sandia Prep.
Current team statistics show the balance of the team that contains four sophomores, three juniors, two seniors, one freshman and one 8th-grader.

The 8th-grader is outside hitter Maya Pino who has 10 blocks, two more than sophomore middle hitter Kianna Durr. In kills, junior outside hitter Rhegan Glidewell leads the way with 57, and with outside middle hitter freshman Alana Overton with 45. In digs,
senior defender Aneesa Ulibarri had put away 107, while next comes sophomore setter Carley Gravel with 50.

Gravel also has contributed 81 assists, second to 99 from senior setter Jayla Martinez. In serves, Ulibarri and Martinez have 11 each, three more than Glidewell. Then there’s service receiving that has Ulibarri way ahead with 124, and Glidewell is second with 55.

That totals seven different players who have contributed to the stats.
