The undefeated Pecos girls won their eighth basketball game in a row

On and on go the undefeated Pecos girls basketball team.
Thursday night‘s 53-45 win over visiting Clayton in District 6-2A play was the eighth straight for the Panthers, with 5-foot-10 senior Trinity Herrera again leading the way with 25 points and 11 rebounds. She leads the team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.
Pecos led 17-10 after one quarter and 20-16 at halftime. Then after Clayton (5-2) pulled into a 33-33 tie after three quarters, the Panthers took off to outscore the visitors 18-12 in the final eight minutes and up their district record to 3-0 heading into Saturday’s home district contest versus Santa Rosa.
Clayton, which dropped to 2-1 in district, picked up 22 points from 5-10 senior Mandy Crisp, its leading scorer who also plays volleyball, softball, does track and field, and cheerleading.
In a girls game at Christian Life, Monte del Sol turned back Santa Fe’s Tierra Encantada, 25-11, to bring its overall record to 2-5 and hand the Alcarcranes their fourth defeat in five games. Daisy Ortiz of the Dragons had the game-high 10 points to go with seven steals and 5-4 junior Gabriela Rosas brought down the game-high six rebounds, plus teammate Jamie Lujan, in her first time of basketball, did well with two points and five boards.
Monte del Sol plays at unbeaten Academy of Technology and The Classics Saturday, while Tierra Encantada has a home game with Estancia.
