Monte del Sol turns back Santa Fe’s Tierra Encantada

Monte del Sol’s boys made it a sweep over Santa Fe’s Tierra Encantada with a 69-33 romp in game two of the basketball doubleheader played at Christian Life Thursday night.
The Dragons, now 5-2 overall, followed the girls game with a big game from 6-foot-5 senior Bryan Roybal, who scored the game-high 26 points on 12-for-17 shooting and brought down six rebounds. Senior transfer Keith Montoya added 16 points and was good on 4-of-8 tries from beyond the 3-point line, while senior Zeal Anthony tallied an even dozen.
Monte del Sol led 24-12 after one quarter, 42-20 at the half, and upped it to 61-24 after three quarters, with the Alcaracranes having a 9-8 edge in the final quarter, but losing for the fourth time in four starts. They play next on Saturday at Estancia. The Drgaons’ next start is is at Academy of Technology and The Classics Saturday in game two of the girls-boys doubleheader.
Pecos boys, despite graduating their entire starting five after last season’s fourth-straight state championships, are now 6-2 overall with their Thursday night 80-58 triumph over visiting Clayton in District 6-2A play. The Panthers are 2-1 in district and are home to district rival Santa Rosa Saturday night. Clayton fell to 3-4 overall and winless in three district starts.
At Los Alamos in District 2-4A, Espanola Valley won a close one, 59-54, to advance its record to 5-0 in district and 6-3 overall. The Hilltoppers are now 3-2 and 6-3.
