Its boys swept the 17 events and the girls won 16 of 19 as St. Michael’s hosted the 3-school track and field get together Thursday afternoon at the Christian Brothers Activities Association.
It was especially a good day for Horsemen junior Isaiah Salazar. He swept both hurdles, winning the 110 in 21:64, and the 300 in 46.74. He also added the triple jump, taking that one with a best of 38-06-50.
Then there was senior Lucas Montoya racing 56.64 to claim the 400 as well as finishing on top in the high jump by going up and over in 5-08. The 100 meters went to senior Robbi Chianese in the time of 11:64, with sophomore teammate Daniel Kupcho second in 11:84, but Kupcho did place first in the 200 in 23:84, and also the long jump by going 20-03.
The two distance events had senior Dennis Ortiz leading the field in the 1,600 by running 5:32.41, and in the 3,200 it was 8th-grader Jaden Perea taking the run in 16:59.24.
In the other field events, junior Jordan Bernal was first in the discus with a throw of 103-03, and the javelin went to junior Devin Flores with his heave of 129-0, while freshman Matthew Duran claimed the shot put with a best throw of 36-02.
In addition, all four relays, the 4 x 100 (45:44), the 4 x 200 (1:38.94), the 4 x 400 (4:10.74), and the sprint medley in 4:01.24.
Also competing in the event was district opponent West Las Vegas and Albuquerque Bosque Charter School, but the best they could do were some runner-up places.
