SFNF Offices Closed Monday, Sept. 6, for Labor Day Holiday

By SFNF

All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, in observance of the federal Labor Day holiday. Offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The three-day Labor Day weekend is traditionally a very busy time on the forest as visitors take advantage of the waning days of summer to spend time outdoors. If you plan to camp or hike on the SFNF this weekend, please follow state public health orders and Centers for Disease Control guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Please remember that fire danger is high in spite of recent moisture. Use extreme caution with campfires, smoking, shooting and other activities that may cause a spark. Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure coals are cold to the touch before leaving the area.

Know before you go and plan ahead. Check the weather forecast and be prepared for seasonal fluctuations in temperature. Use good judgment and basic safety precautions when recreating. Do not rely on cell phones for safety because you may not always have cell coverage in remote sections of the forest.

Visitors are encouraged to recreate responsibly and follow “Leave No Trace”principles:

  • Plan ahead and prepare
  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces
  • Dispose of waste properly
  • Leave what you find
  • Minimize campfire impacts
  • Respect wildlife
  • Be considerate of other visitors
