Santa Fe High Demonettes impressive

The visiting Santa Fe High girls moved two games over .500 at 6-8 by handing neighbor Santa Fe Indian School a 38-25 setback in Thursday’s non-district basketball game.
Head coach Nate Morris’ Demonettes quickly took the lead with a 15-6 first quarter, and upped it to 18-9 at halftime. In the second half of the low scoring contest, it was 16-all for both teams, but became the third defeat in 14 stats for the Braves.
But Capital dropped to 3-11 by losing handily at Piedra Vista, 73-30, in non-district play. PV is now 10-3, and the Jaguars received a team-high 16 points from Kayla Martinez.
At Moriarty, it was a 61-31 setback over St.Michael’s as the Pintos became 8-2 and dropped the Lady Horsemen to 4-9. Moriarty soared to a 20-8 lead after one quarter, was up 36-14 at the intermission, and the third quarter found the home side up 40-17, and the final eight minutes had St. Michael’s outscored 20-14, but never able to cut into the deficit.
Pecos is now 5-6 after downing Questa, 65-44. It was the Panthers holding on to a 31-30 halftime lead after trailing 18-11 after one quarter against 4-5 Questa. But in the second half, it was Pecos on top 34-24, and it maintained it through the last quarter as Natalie Stout tallied 14 of her 16 points in the first half and teammate Savannah Ortiz scored the game-high 21 points.
At Los Lunas, Espanola Valley edged the winless Tigers, 30-29, to up its overall record to 6-8 and hand Los Lunas its 12th straight defeat in the non-district contest. In the low scoring game, the Sundevils led 13-10 following the opening quarter, it was tied 21-21 at halftime, and the visitors got by with a 9-8 advantage over the final two quarters.
Monte del Sol had a dismal shooting game with only six points in a 55-6 loss against Santa Rosa, which led 19-1 after one quarter, 37-5 at the intermission, and the lead mounted as the Dragons (1-8) were scoreless in the last eight minutes and outscored 18-1 in the second half as the Lions improved to 8-3.
MDS does deserve credit where credit is due, for it was much closer in a 14-point loss to East Mountain, a 10-point defeat versus Crownpoint, a 7-point setback against Espanola McCurdy, a 8-point loss to Mora, and lost by only four points to Santa Fe Prep.
Undefeated Robertson advanced to 12-0 by dominating visiting Hatch Valley, 67-34, in non-district play, and Bernalillo also remained with an unblemished 12-0 mark by rolling over West Las Vegas, 66-26, on the road to drop the Dons to 6-8 following this non-district contest.
