Three men’s Division I college basketball teams are undefeated

By Arnie Leshin
Can’t truly say that Colorado State is right up there with the other undefeated teams in the men’s college basketball top 25 rankings.
There are three schools on the list with unblemished records, the defending national champions Baylor at No. 1, Southern California at No. 7, and down the list you go to find Colorado State parked at No. 20.
Now the Bears are a power five school from the Big 12 and the so are the Trojans from the PAC-12, but the poor overlooked Rams are so far down simply because of being in the Mountain West Conference, but with 10 of its teams above .500, and with cellar dweller New Mexico right at .500.
But that’s the way it goes in every Division I sport, the power five schools rule, they are on top of the heap, and so for schools like Colorado State, it’s frustrating. If it continues to excel, though, it will no doubt claim an automatic
berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Right behind the Rams in the MWC standings, is San Diego State at 9-3, and both are 1-0 in conference play. Then comes Boise State at 10-4 and 1-0, and Nevada at 7-5 and 1-0. One team is below these others, and that’s Wyoming at 11-2overall, and the Cowboys and San Jose State are the only ones at 0-0 in the conference. The Lobos are 0-1.
In the Western Athletic Conference, it’s the same old song, New Mexico State on top of the 12-team standings at 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the WAC. Right behind is Grand Canyon,12-2 and 2-0. Seattle follows at 10-4 and 1-0, and then comes Stephen F. Austin at 9-4 and 1-0.
Eight of the schools are above .500 overall, with Abilene Christian at 11-3, Utah Valley State at 10-4 and California Baptist at 10-3.
As for the two Land of Enchantment schools, it looks good for the Aggies in their usual place up on top, and not good for the Lobos lurking in last place.
