Errors, errors and more errors damaged the hopes of visiting Santa Fe Indian School

By Arnie Leshin
The Taos softball team is no longer winless as it welcomed Santa Fe Indian School to its field Thursday and came through with a 13-10 and 14-12 sweep to run its overall record to 2-7 and drop the Braves to 8-6 in the non-district contest.
Indian School, with ace pitcher Shade Phae sidelined with an illness, didn’t help its cause by committing four errors in the second inning of the opener and allowed the Tigers to score 10 times and take a 12-2 lead that held up despite the Braves closing to within 12-10.
In the closer, three more miscues by the visitors in the fourth frame and the home side again tallied 10 times in the fourth inning to break a 4-4 tie.
“We’ve got to understand,” said Indian School head coach Oliver Torres, “that if we make an error to just shake it off and move on to the next play and not let it grow into something bigger. We kind of get down.”
The Braves turn to District 2-3A play at home Saturday with a doubleheader against St. Michael’s. The same day, Taos heads to Los Alamos for a 2-4A doubleheader.
