Both St. Michael’s and Robertson went on hit parades Tuesday afternoon as their baseball teams prepared for Saturday’s doubleheader in the clash for the top spots in District 2-3A, and with East Mountain also up there at 8-2.
Up at Raton, the Horsemen won their sixth in a row by scoring nine times in the first two innings enroute to a 18-7 triumph that advanced their overall record to 11-5.
The Tigers (6-9) did tally twice in the opening frame and three times in the third, but the visitors bounced back with a pair of runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh.
At district foe Santa Fe Indian School, which is 7-8 overall, Robertson upped its overall mark to 12-4-1 by trouncing the Braves, 12-4. The Cardinals came up with seven hits to go with three errors, and Indian School had five hits and had three miscues.
Robertson tallied in every inning, with one run each in the first, second and third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and an added three in the seventh. The Braves scored twice each in the second and sixth innings.
The Horsemen are 4-0 in district, Robertson 3-0, and East Mountain 2-1, with a 9-7 loss at Robertson and a 13-3 win on the road over St. Michael’s. It will be the first meeting this season between the Cardinals and Horsemen, with an April 26 contest scheduled for Las Vegas. As of now, it’s a packed standings, with New Mexico Military Institute at 11-4 and Albuquerque Sandia Prep at 11-5. West Las Vegas is at 3-8 and has lost four in a row.
