HS SOFTBALL RESULTS

By Arnie Leshin
Robertson remained frontrunners with East Mountain in softball District 2-3A by hitting the road and pitching a 2-0 triumph over Santa Fe Indian School Tuesday afternoon.
The Cardinals,12-3 overall and 3-0 in district, scored its runs in the third innings with the assistance of three Braves errors in a pitcher’s dual matching Robertson’s Adrianna Sanchez soft stuff and Indian School’s hard throwing Shade Phae Young, with Sanchez yielding three hits and striking out 10. Young was also touched for three hits and whiffed 13. But miscues in the first three innings were damaging for the home side, which dropped to 10-7 overall and 4-1 in district.
And in the third, it took one miscue and Leigha Lucero’s wind-aided triple to score Amor Allen and Alexis Pacheco. Allen had begun the inning with a walk, then Pacheco reached base when first baseman Abrianna Herrera could not glove Alexis Vigil’s throw from third base on a grounder. Then came Lucero driving the ball into the left field corner that popped out of the glove of eighth grader Hannah Martinez.
That was it for the scoring, but the Braves did give it a final try in the seventh when Martinez led off with a single to left and stole second base. But Joann Leno’s soft liner was grabbed by third baseman Aslyn Padilla and she tossed to second to retire Martinez, who couldn’t get back to second base.
St. Michael’s lost its sixth straight game in returning from Raton with a 12-2 setback and dropping to 7-7 overall. For Raton (3-7), it’s been a rough recent stretch after losing 15-0 to Indian School, 12-9 to 5A Clovis, 9-4 to 2A Dexter, 17-7 to 4A Espanola and 23-8 to 4A Pojoaque before outscoring Hatch Valley, 31-16, and Tucumcari, 15-3.
