MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TOP TEAMS AND WILD–CARD GAME

By Arnie Leshin
As excepted, the Los Angeles Dodgers are at the top of list of the top Major League teams during the regular season that now brings the wild-card games and the division winners who drew byes.
The Dodgers turned in a 111-51 overall record, followed by the 106-56 Houston Astros, the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves all even at 101-62, then come the New York Yankees at 99-63, the St. Louis Cardinals at 93-69, the Cleveland Gladiators and Toronto Blue Jays both at 92-70, the Seattle Mariners at 90-72, the San Diego Padres at 89-73, the Philadelphia Phils at 87-75, and both the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers at 86-76.
Except Milwaukee didn’t make it to the NL post-season. Both leagues begin play on Friday, Oct. 7 in the best-of-three. The remaining dates are Oct. 8th and 9th for both leagues.
In the National League, it’s the Padres at the Mets and Philadelphia at St. Louis.
In the American League, it’s Tampa Bay at Cleveland and Seattle at Toronto.
From there, the bye teams get the respective survivors. In the NL, the Dodgers take on the Mets-Padres winner and the Braves versus the Philadelphia-St. Louis winner. In the AL, the Astros face the Seattle-Toronto winner and the Yankees go against the Cleveland-Tampa Bay winner, with these games beginning the best-of-5 on Oct. 11.
The league championships are best-of-seven and will begin on Oct. 15 in the National League, and on Oct. 16 in the American League.
The two teams remaining will then play in the best-of-seven World Series.
