NM HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS RESULTS

By Arnie Leshin
Wake-up call for the Academy of Technology and The Classics boys basketball team that just doesn’t believe in calling in its results.
But at least the ACTAC girls let their results be known, with a Saturday 46-23 non-district romp over visiting Mora that put their record at 2-0, with a non-district visit from St. Michael’s Tuesday. They were up quickly at 20-5, after a quarter, had it cut to 25-13 at halftime, and then outscoring Mora, 21-10, in the second half. The Phoenix came down with 15 offensive rebounds and 22 steals.
Junior Nazare Romero led the way with a team-high 16 points and senior Jada Gallegos added eight.

In boys basketball, Capital began the new season with a 61-48 non-district setback against visiting Las Cruces Organ Mountain. The Jaguars fell behind early, as Organ Mountain went on an 8-1 run that was trimmed to a 25-25 tie, but Capital never got closer than eight points after that.

Senior guard Izaya Sanchez-Valencia had 11 of her game-high of 25 points in the second quarter, while junior Santiago Bencomo and senior Isaac Ortaga contributed six each. The Jags hit the road for non-district opponent Taos Tuesday.
