UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Falling behind early and outrebounded, the University of New Mexico’s women’s basketball team took a 78-69 setback at Wyoming in Thursday night‘s Mountain West contest.
 
Now 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference, the Lobos were down 25-14 after the first quarter and 42-32 at the intermission. After three quarters, the lead increased to 65-51, but the visitors did have the upper hand, 18-13, in the last quarter.
 
The Cowgirls, now 9-5 and 2-1, were led by 6-foot-4 senior Allyson Fertig’s 15 boards and held a huge 41-21 advantage in that area. UNM was 26 for 57 from the floor and 10-for-29 in 3s, while Wyoming made good on 32 of 63 from the field and 7-for-20 from beyond the arc.
 
For the Lobos, the leading scorer with 22 points was 6-foot senior Shaiquel McGruder, and 5-7 senior Lata Duff added 14.
