After losing nine in a row, the New Mexico State men’s basketball team has put together back-to-backs wins with Saturday’s 82-77 success over visiting Seattle.
Six Aggies were in double figures as they improved to 9-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play. They led 42-33 at halftime, shot 27 for 60 from the field and converted 22 of 26 free throws.
It could be called a surprise for Seattle had come in with a 16-8 overall record, and had previously defeated NMSU, 69-66.
It was a turnout of 4,998 that welcomed the Aggies’ second conference triumph in nine starts.
Leading the balanced attack was 6-foot-5 sophomore Anthony Roy with 15 points. Fourteen points were scored by 6-5 junior DaJuan Quayla Gordon.
There were two players who tallied a dozen, 6-7 junior Issa Muhammad and 6-9 junior Jay Beck. Scoring 11 each were 6-2 junior Troy Pinson and 6-8 sophomore Doctor Bradley.
It put the home court record at 6-4, but on the road the team has won only one of nine, with the next test Wednesday at Grand Canyon.
Seattle was good for 14-of-14 foul shots, and was good for 26 for 71 from the floor.
