ST. MICHAEL’S GIRLS RUN OFF WITH CLASS 2-3A TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

By Arnie Leshin
As the boys did, the St. Michael’s girls had much too much track and field strength Saturday in dominating the Class 2-3A championships at West Las Vegas.

The Lady Horsemen ran up 189 points to outdistance the field, with second place WLV scoring 83, Robertson 78, Santa Fe Prep 58.50, Santa Fe Indian School 39, and Raton 34.

Junior Rebekah Bagwell paved the way by winning the 100 meters in 13.29, sophomore Raylee Hunt then won the 800 in 2:37.25 and freshman Ellie Musolf the 1,600 in 6:05.08.
In the relays, St. Michael’s claimed the 4 x 100 in 57.23, the 4 x 200 in 1:50.07, and the 4 x 400 in 4:16.46, while the sprint medley went to Indian School in 4:37.68 and the 4 x 800 in 11:03.08.
In the field events, Lady Horsemen junior Jada Lujan took the high jump with a best of 5-02, and senior Jacquelin Gorman the pole vault at 10-0

But it was Prep junior Emery Kurtz, daughter of Griffins’ athletic director Todd Kurtz, won the long jump at 18-00.05, and the triple jump at 33-03.50.

In the 400, the winner was Braves’ freshman Kaydance Riley in the time of 1:02.17, and in the 3,200 the first to finish was Prep sophomore Ny Griego in 2:43.71.

Griego finished third in a rather first-three chase to the finish, with St. Michael’s sophomore Raylee Hunt winning in 2:37.15, Musolf second in 2:39.22, and Griego timed 2:43.71.
