The state tournament baseball seedings are in, but the softball also scheduled for Sunday still haven’t been announced.
St. Michael’s was chosen as the 3rd-seed in Class 3A, gets a bye, and takes on the No. 6 West Las Vegas-No. 11 East Mountain survivor,
The Horsemen have won their second straight District 2 championship and on a five-game win streak and sporting a 16-7 overall record under head coach Augustin Ruiz.
On top of 3A at No. 1 is Albuquerque Sandia Prep, which hung a 21-0 football score shellacking Saturday over Dexter, and will next meet up with the No. 8 Hatch Valley-No. 9 Zuni.
No. 2 is New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) and it awaits the No. 10 Ruidoso-No. 7 Santa Fe Indian School winners, with the Braves playing host in the opening round contest.
No. 4 is Cobre and it goes against the No. 12 Navajo Prep-No. 5 Robertson survivor.
The higher seeds are home for game number one.
Class 5A has Rio Rancho on top followed by
Albuquerque Valley, Carlsbad, and No. 4 Albuquerque Volcano Vista.
In Class 4A, it’s Grants on top of the heap, with Albuquerque St. Pius X next, then No. 3 Albuquerque Academy and Albuquerque La Cueva.
Santa Rosa is No. 1 in 2A and next comes Albuquerque Menaul, No. 3 Eunice, and No. 4 Rehoboth Christian, while Logan is on-top 1A, second is Magdalena, Melrose is No. 3, and No. 4 is Mesqulla Valley.
Albuquerque Rio Grande, the 6th seed, split a doubleheader Saturday at Santa Fe High, taking the 5A opener 11-10, and dropping the closer, 8-7.
The Ravens won the District 5 title and Santa Fe High figured a split would gain a spot in the 16-field state tournament, but no dice, the Demons didn’t make it and wound up at 17-8overall and 5-5 in district.
So from the Santa Fe area only St. Michael’s made it to state in baseball. There’s also Pojoaque Valley getting into 4A as the 15th seed.
