He was one of the greats of our National Pastime, a model of excellence, durability, loyalty and winning baseball for his Baltimore Orioles.,
He was beloved for deft glovework, homespun charm, no acting, just a genuine person respected by his teammates, and in his case, the O’s, with whom he spent his entire 23-year career, and for whom there was a moment of silence before Baltimore’s game against the Washington Nationals.
At the age of 88, Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson passed away Tuesday in what was a brief statement with his family, who announced it without a reason for his death. Before the game, fans also gathered around the 9-foot bronze statue of Robinson inside Camden Yards.
The respect for the great third baseman, among the finest to ever play the hot corner, came from all corners of the country.
