Golondrino prescribed fire ignitions completed; Rincon prescribed fire canceled

Fire managers have completed ignitions for the Golondrino precribed fire on the Santa Fe National Forest for a total of 1,630 acres. Fire managers canceled the Rincon prescribed fire today due to low humidity. Given the predicted high winds on Saturday, the Rincon prescribed fire may be delayed even longer.

Golondrino Prescribed Fire, Cuba Ranger District

Crews completed ignitions yesterday on the unburned areas of vegetation within the interior.

Resources implementing the Golondrino prescribed fire included six engines and one contingency engine with a UTV, three UTV pumpers, two squads from the Santa Fe and Mt. Taylor hotshots and one helicopter.

Four engines and two UTV pumpers will remain on-site until resources are no longer required. Patrols will continue to monitor the burn area, pending weather and fire conditions, until declared out.

Smoke from the Golondrino prescribed fire impacted some local communities yesterday, with general clearing in the afternoon.

Rincon Prescribed Fire, Coyote Ranger District

The 2,227-acre Rincon prescribed fire project is on French Mesa, off Forest Road 8, on the Coyote Ranger District about seven miles north of the community of Gallina. The Rincon prescribed fire has been canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions at this time. The Rincon burn may be rescheduled in October if weather conditions are within the parameters laid out in the burn plan.
