Traveling state 3A girls soccer finalist St. Michael’s hit the high road to Taos Tuesday and won for the second straight time, 7-1, behind three goals from junior Jada Lujan and two from sophomore Sophia Miera at the Eco Park pitch.
Now 2-0, the Lady Horsemen play next at 4 p.m. Thursdayat Albuquerque Sandia Prep, and then conclude the early road trips on 10 a.m. Saturday at Albuquerque Bosque Charter School. They had opened at Pojoaque Valley with a 3-0 zip.
In all, St. Michael’s scored on 15 shots and held a 2-0 halftime advantage. Joining Lujan and Miera were second half tallies from junior Tara Scheider and freshman Bella Griego, while head coach Alfonso Camarena praised sophomore goaltender Charlotte Herman for a stellar match that included a penalty kick save.
The Lady Horsemen scored quickly in the second minute when newcomer Griego found the net on a Lujan corner kick. Lujan’s first goal came on an outside kick and brought the 2-0 lead.
It was the initial loss for the Tigers in five games and after a short layoff, they play next at Bernalillo on Tuesday.
