COLLEGE FOOTBALL KEY WEEKEND GAMES

By Arnie Leshin

In upcoming college football, top-ranked Georgia has the weekend off, No. 2 Michigan has its usual tilt against Michigan State, and then comes No. 3 Ohio State with a true toughie at No. 7 Penn State.

That’s the way the schedule shapes up. All of the above are undefeated with the exception of one-loss Michigan State, which lost to Rutgers, but it doesn’t matter when the Wolverines and Spartans meet.

Or when ranked teams clash, as No. 4 Florida State (5-0} is at No. 18 Duke (5-1), No. 11 Alabama (6-0) at No. 17 Tennessee (5-1), and No. 14 Utah (5-1) heading for No. 18 Southern California (5-1), which was routed by No. 21 Notre Dame, 48-20.

And then an interesting battle when unbeaten and No. 22 Air Force (5-0) plays at 2-2 Navy. And can’t forget Saturday’s game up at Norman when undefeated and No. 6 Oklahoma (6-0) plays host to Central Florida (3-3) as Sooners’ quarterback Dillon Gabriel takes on his former team.

Then there’s fifth-ranked Washington (6-0) versus Arizona State, No. 8 Texas (5-1) at state-rival Houston, No. 9 Oregon (5-1) against Washington State, and rounding out the top 10, 10th-ranked North Carolina (6-0) traveling to Virgina.

No. 25 UCLA (4-2) is at unranked Stanford, which trailed 29-0 to up-and-down Colorado (4-3) and won 46-43, in double overtime. Now 2-4, the Cardinal matched touchdowns with the Buffalos, but then won it on a field goal in OT two.
