The Department is excited to host various public events in the upcoming months.

Field Dressing

Attention Hunters: Now is the time to start giving back

Attention hunters: Are you ready to give back to the hunting community? We are looking for ethical hunters to help teach the next generation of hunters. The Department currently has three scheduled opportunities to get certified:

Dec. 16, 2023 in Las Cruces

Jan. 6, 2024 in Hobbs

Jan. 27, 2024 in Albuquerque

Archery Instruction

Have you been curious about bowhunting, attend our upcoming camp to learn important skills

This camp is for participants of all ages who are interested in learning more about the basics of archery and bowhunting. Participants will learn archery basics and safety, how to choose equipment, proper shot placement while hunting, outdoor preparedness and more! All archery equipment will be provided; however, you are encouraged to bring your own equipment if you have it.

Class will be held Dec. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Roswell (registration opens on Nov. 27 at 9 a.m.).

Fly Fishing

Ladies’ Fly Fishing Workshop

This class is open to any lady seeking to learn or improve on her fly fishing, casting skills and abilities. Participants will receive instruction and coaching from Trish Valdez and other Trout Unlimited – Bosque Chapter members to gain or improve their fly-casting skills for fly fishing. No equipment is necessary, but ladies are encouraged to bring their own if they have it. This is for all levels of angler!

Please check out the session scheduled for Albuquerque starting at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 16.

Registration opens on Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here to register.


OHV

Want to get away? Learn how to do so safely on your ATV.

The Department and our partners offer ATV safety trainings across the state. Students completing the class receive the safety permit required for off-highway vehicle operators under the age of 18 on public lands. Students under the age of 18 will also receive a free helmet and goggles. ATVs and safety gear will be available for use during the class.

The Department currently has classes scheduled for:

  • Dec. 2 in Doña Ana County
  • Dec. 9 in Roswell
  • Dec. 16 in Albuquerque

All riders completing the course will earn their OHV safety permit and riders under 18 will receive a helmet and goggles.

Be ready to apply for the 2024 hunting season by getting your Hunter Education class now!

Hunter Education provides an educational opportunity that enables students to safely participate in a hunting or shooting sport. Hunter Education and its corps of volunteer instructors strive to produce safe, ethical and responsible students who will be tomorrow’s hunters and shooters.

Hunter Education classes are currently listed in Bosque del Apache, Farmington, Isleta, Lovington, Questa, Sandia Park and Socorro.
