Trail access along Hyde Park Road to be impacted during thinning project implementation

Trail access will be impacted in the Hyde Park Road corridor while forest thinning work is conducted next week. From March 17-21, access will be restricted on Winsor Trail #254 from Forest Road 102 south to Tesuque Creek, and the Tesuque Creek Trail #152 west of Hyde Park Road to its junction with Winsor Trail (see map). While trails will not fully close during project work, trail guards may stop hikers and bikers periodically to ensure safe passage while crews are cutting within the trail corridor. To avoid delays, recreationalists are encouraged to consider using other trails outside of the project area during this time.

Thinning work adjacent to Hyde Park Road is part of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) Santa Fe Mountains Landscape Resiliency Project (SFMLRP), which was authorized under the National Environmental Policy Act in 2023 and began implementation later that year. The SFMLRP is a 10-year restoration project focused on helping the ponderosa pine and frequent-fire mixed conifer landscapes near New Mexico’s capital city increase resiliency to threats including high-severity wildfire. Thinning activities will occur on 296 acres of the Northeast Thinning Unit in the Tesuque Creek drainage. The project will continue until April 15, but trail access is only expected to be impacted through March 21.
