Following a long-established practice, the New Mexico State Parks Division announces seasonal changes in services within state parks.
New Mexico State Parks Director, Christy Tafoya stated, “As we head into the fall and winter seasons, we see a drop-off in visitation in some state parks and reduced needs for services. With these conditions in mind, we impose some area closures in our state parks. Designated campgrounds, comfort stations, and some recreational locations in parks may be closed for winterization from October-April.” These are regularly scheduled seasonal closures; no park in the system will be permanently closed.
There are still many park areas open to enjoy and remain popular during the winter season, particularly those in the southern part of the state. Other day-use parks, such as the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park or Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park in Carlsbad, remain fully open year-round to visit and enjoy!
