Tingley Beach: Alaina Sanchez, age 8, and Adrian Sanchez, age 7, of Socorro caught their limits of rainbow trout in the Children’s Pond using white and pink PowerBait balls Feb. 29.

Rito De Frijoles: D.K. Warner, of Los Alamos, started his New Mexico Trout Challenge off in the Jemez Mountains by catching and releasing an 11.5-inch Rio Grande cutthroat trout at the Upper Crossing in Bandelier using a fly Feb. 28.

San Juan River: John Baxter, of Phoenix, caught a 26-inch brown trout using a Yongflasher fly Feb. 28.

Santa Cruz Lake: Carmella Archuleta, of Espanola, caught a 24-inch rainbow trout using PowerBait March 1. Santiago Ramirez, of Los Lunas, caught a 21-inch, 3-pound rainbow trout with an 11-inch girth using a silver Kastmaster lure Feb. 29.

Seven Springs Brood Pond: Cooper Allen, age 8, and Ben Allen, age 11, of Albuquerque caught their limits of rainbow trout using black and green leach pattern flies and a black Pistol Pete March 1.

Trees Lake: Brothers Diego Rivero, age 7, and Mateo Rivero, age 4, of Las Cruces caught a 10.5-inch rainbow trout using rainbow PowerBait Feb. 22.

Eagle Nest Lake: The lake is open for ice fishing with ice reported at 16-inches thick. Fishing for trout was fair to good using small ice fishing jigs, spoons and PowerBait. Fishing for perch was fair to good using Swedish Pimple jigs tipped with mealworms. We had no reports on other species.

Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Fawn Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Hopewell Lake: The gate to the camping area is closed. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Alice: The lake is closed due to unsafe ice conditions. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Maloya: The lake is open for ice fishing with ice reported at 18-inches thick. Fishing for trout was good using dough bait and PowerBait.

Los Pinos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Maxwell Lake 13: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Monastery Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Morphy Lake: The lake is closed for a renovation project on the dam and no firm opening date has been set.

Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos Monday morning was 30.0 cfs. Fishing for trout was very good at Villa Nueva State Park using Copper John flies.

Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery Monday morning was 41.4 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using mop flies and salmon eggs.

Rio Grande: Stream flow at the Taos Junction Bridge Monday morning was 584 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good near Bear Crossing using woolly buggers. Fishing for catfish near Albuquerque was good using cut bait.

Rio Hondo: Stream flow Monday morning near Valdez was not measured due to ice. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Rio Mora: Stream flow Monday morning was not measured due to ice. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco Monday morning was not measured due to ice. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait, PowerBait Trout Nuggets and silver Kastmaster lures.

Shuree Ponds: The ponds are closed. Fishing is open on the Valle Vidal, including Shuree Ponds, July 1-Dec. 31.

Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Storrie Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Ute Lake: The white bass are moving into their spawning areas and are shallow. Catfish are becoming a little more active in 10 to 15-feet of water. A few walleye are starting to move into shallower water. The surface water temperature was in the mid-40’s and the main lake was clear.

Abiquiu Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Due to low water levels, anglers are advised to use four-wheel drive vehicles to launch boats and watch for obstructions on the water.

Animas River: Water flow below Aztec Monday morning was 187 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Albuquerque Area Drains:Fishing for trout was fair to good using spinners and PowerBait.

Bluewater Lake: Fishing for trout was very good using PowerBait, corn, spinners and woolly buggers. Fishing for tiger muskie was slow. Fishing for catfish was slow. The lake was reported as ice free and open to boating.

Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 91.4 cfs and 49.1 cfs respectively. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was fair to good using midge flies, streamer flies, PowerBait and PowerBait worms. We had no reports from below Abiquiu Lake. Anglers should expect seasonal closures on the Rio Chama below Abiquiu Dam until March as a fish habitat improvement project is currently underway. Cochiti Lake: Fishing for catfish was good using garlic-scented chicken and hot dogs.

El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Fenton Lake: The lake is closed to ice fishing due to unsafe ice conditions. The lake is open for day use and camping. Please remember that only two cutthroat trout are allowed to be harvested per day within the regular five-fish limit.

Heron Lake: Due to varying ice conditions anglers are encouraged to call the state park office (575) 588-7470 for current conditions.

Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near the town of Jemez Monday morning was 26.0 cfs. Fishing for trout was very good below Battleship Rock using Golden Hare’s Ear and other nymph flies just below the water’s surface.

Laguna del Campo: The lake is currently closed. Open May 1 to October 1.

Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Manzano Lake: Fishing for trout was fair to good using corn and PowerBait.

McGaffey Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Navajo Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

San Juan River: Stream flow Monday morning was 418 cfs. Fishing for rainbow and brown trout in the quality waters was good using black zebra midges, chocolate/olive foam wing emergers, red/orange annelids, brown fly patterns size 20 to 26 and olive/green leach patterns up to size 12. Best midge hatches were occurring between 9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. Water clarity was about 2.5-feet of visibility. Fishing for trout in the bait waters was fair to good using egg patterns and spinners.

Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing for rainbow trout was good using black and green leech pattern flies, black Pistol Petes and brown dry flies.

Tingley Beach: Fishing for trout was good using white and pink PowerBait balls. Fishing for trout in the catch and release pond was fair using black and gold bead head zebra midge flies.

Alumni Pond: Fishing for trout was fair to good using garlic peach PowerBait, corn and marshmallows.
