Santa Fe, N.M., The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has issued a temporary closure for the Tesuque Peak area in the Española Ranger District to protect the
public’s health and safety during the rebuilding and environmental restoration of the Tesuque
Peak Powerline.
This Order shall be in effect from August 16, 2024, at 8 a.m. through Dec 31, 2026, at 12 a.m.,
unless rescinded.
Prohibitions
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), the following are prohibited within the
closure area on National Forest System (NFS) lands and roads in the Española Ranger District,
Santa Fe National Forest:
1. Going into or being upon an area which is closed for the protection of public health and
safety. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53 (e).
Violation of the closure order is punishable by fines and/or imprisonment. Federal, state, and
local officers, firefighters, members of an organized rescue team, and any others authorized by
Forest Service permit are exempt from the closure order.
The closure order and map are available on the SFNF website under Alerts & Notices, and copies
are available at the SFNF Supervisor’s Office (SO) and the Española District Office. For more
